Fall '94 through Spring '99, referred to affectionately as the college years.
Seattle - primarily the dance department of the University of Washington, the windowless records room of a law firm, and a dingy basement apartment on the west side.
Yours truly, a dangerously shy overachiever with a firm ass proudly perched atop dancer's legs.
The 5-disc shuffle. And, yes, a discman.
A likely shuffle:
1. Strange Currencies - REM
2. San Andreas Fault - Natalie Merchant
3. I Think I'm Paranoid - Garbage
4. Music Box - Philip Glass
5. Shadowboxer - Fiona Apple
6. The Unforgiven - Apocalyptica
7. Innocent When You Dream - Tom Waits
8. Purple Haze - Kronos Quartet
9. Devil's Haircut - Beck
10. You Mama You - Jude
11. It's Oh So Quiet - Bjork
Notes: the Philip Glass piece is not chronologically accurate, but my playlist.com options are limited. Also, a Goodness song should really be here to make this a truly representative playlist, but playlist.com has never heard of them. Blip.fm has - you should check them out for the full Martini Mom college experience. Finally, in the interest of full disclosure, Madonna was still allowed in my house during the college years, and I guiltily adored that Ray of Light album. I had it on the playlist initially but, ew, who wants to remember that? Also, it was making The Man's ears bleed.
Enjoy, my lovelies. Or grimace at the memories along with me.
