Why verbs make bad last names

"What's this music?"

"Tom Waits."

"Who's Tom?"

"The guy singing."

"Oh." [moment of silence] "What's he waiting for?"

Sometimes, verb names can be very entertaining though:

Where did Vincent van Gogh? And where did John Mellencamp?
Is Vanna White? Is James Brown? And why is Shirley Temple-Black? Did Tammy-Faye Baker? No, but George Burns.
Is Glenn Close? Is Martin Short? With whom did Tom Cruise? Was it Marvin Gaye or Ben Gay? It makes Stevie Wonder.
